When it comes to Indian cuisine, South Indian food often gets overlooked. When a typical Canadian thinks of Indian food, more often than not, naan and butter chicken come to mind. But there’s obviously more to it than just that.
Yarl Dosa Corner serves authentic South Indian Tamil food with a few Sri Lankan dishes. This restaurant is a very typical family-owned restaurant, located in the Kennedy Square Mall. Fittingly, it doesn’t cater to high end clientele. While it’s decor and ambience could use some work, the food is great.
The taste was full of flavour with just the right amount of spice.
We had a staple Sri Lankan Tamil dish called, kothu roti, which is made with curry, vegetables (or vegetables and meat) and chopped pieces of roti on a flat top tava grill. The taste was full of flavour with just the right amount of spice. Although, the presentation was lacking and the portions could’ve been bigger, they were still decent.
This is a place better suited to get take out, not to go on a date.
Next, we had a very popular South Indian dish called, uttapam. It looks like a pizza, with dough made from semolina flour, vegetables on top and paired with sambar(curry) & two dips. The portion size is underwhelming but for the price, it has a decent taste. The dips could be better. They lack the fresh flavours I’m used to from other South Indian restaurants.
Keep in mind this is a place better suited to get take out, not to go on a date. Then again, it doesn’t seem like the restaurant is trying to cater to that market.
